Truth Hounds and Kyiv-Mohyla Academy join a dialogue project to discuss transitional justice with countries of the Global Majority

Truth Hounds, together with the Department of International and European Law at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, will join the Global Transitional Justice discussion project dedicated to the global experience in transitional justice. The project was initiated by the Ukrainian Bar Association and the International Centre for Transitional Justice (ICTJ).

The involvement of Truth Hounds aims to broaden the scope and geography of issues discussed jointly by Ukrainian and international experts, and strategically – to expand and deepen dialogue with the expert community from Global Majority countries, study the experience of these countries, and share Ukraine’s experience.

In recent years, Truth Hounds’ human rights defenders and lawyers have made a number of important visits to countries in Asia, Africa, and South America. Despite the vast distances, Ukraine and these distant countries often face common problems and challenges, particularly those related to accountability for violations of human rights and international humanitarian law, the consequences of overcoming armed conflicts, including the restoration of justice, the right to truth, ensuring adequate reparations for victims of armed conflicts, and, more broadly, the struggle for democracy and the consequences of significant social transformations, the crisis of the international justice system, and similar issues.

The series of webinars will involve Ukrainian lawyers, experts, and human rights defenders, including representatives of Truth Hounds and the Department of International and European Law at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, as well as experts, lawyers, and media representatives from Global Majority countries, depending on the topic of each specific discussion.

It should be noted that, in recent years, against the backdrop of a full-scale invasion, Ukraine has significantly intensified its dialogue with countries in Asia, Africa, Central and South America, both at the state level and within civil society. Part of this conversation concerns issues related to international law, justice, and human rights. A joint series of discussions between ICTJ, Truth Hounds, APU, and the Department of International and European Law at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy will support these efforts.

The topics and schedule of the webinars will be announced. Follow announcements on the Truth Hounds and partners’ pages and join our discussions.
